At Plus Retail in Leiden (NL) they are taking the fight against food waste very seriously and acted in the best possible way at the POS: placing an e-Coolio in combination with a Freshboard Traditional in the fresh produce aisle to offer products close to their “best before” date at a reduced price. 🙌 Hands up for this great initiative!
Some food for thought:
The best before date is not the same as the expiration date or Sell Date. The best before date indicates
when a product will be of best flavour or quality.
If you're at the grocery store and the very last unit of your favourite yoghurt has that day's sell-by date, you can still buy it. This is not a safety date, but rather a date for retailers that helps them determine how long an item should remain on the shelf.
